What is breast conservation surgery?

Surgery to remove cancer or other abnormal tissue from the breast with some normal tissue around it but not the breast itself. 

What is the difference between breast conservation surgery and mastectomy?

Mastectomy involves removing the entire breast. Breast-conserving surgery removes just the cancerous area and a small amount of surrounding normal tissue (also called lumpectomy) and management of axilla.
