Thyroid cancers are treated by a surgery called total thyroidectomy which involves removal of the entire thyroid gland. In well-localized small tumorsone lobe of the thyroid may be saved during surgery called as hemithyroidectomy. Parathyroidectomy is surgery to remove the parathyroid glands or parathyroid tumors. The parathyroid glands are right behind the thyroid gland in your neck. These glands help your body control the calcium level in the blood.
