J wire localization and excision of breast lesions
J wire localization and excision of breast lesions –
- Screening for breast cancer helps to identify tumors/lesions that are small and often not felt on examination.
- However, some of these lesions may be precancerous or actual early-stage breast cancers.
- These nonpalpable tumors can be removed safely using a j wire.
- J wire is inserted in these suspicious areas under USG/mammographic guidance and then the patient is taken for surgery. During surgery, the lesion is removed with the J wire intact and a mammogram of the specimen is done to check for complete removal.
- The patient may need further treatment (radiation/chemotherapy) as per final histopathology.
- These methods help to identify and treat DCIS and early breast cancers with the best possible survival results.
Screening mammograms after 45 years of age may help save a woman’s life. Get yourself checked today!!
